Acupuncture For Your Headaches

In a recent issue of Anethesia and Analgesia, researchers from Duke University reviewed a total of thirty one studies in which acupuncture, sham acupuncture and medical therapy were utilized on adults who suffered from chronic tension type headaches and migraines.  The results of the review found that Acupuncture offered relief in improving headache intensity, frequency and response rate, to the patients 62% of the time, while medication (i.e. aspirin) was only effective 45% of the time.  This analysis offers great news for headache sufferers, and furthermore proves the efficacy of Acupuncture.

I am a licensed Acupuncturist and NCCAOM Board certified Diplomat of Oriental Medicine. I live in Hailey, Idaho, where I have an Acupuncture practice, Erin Hill Acupuncture as well as a type of Integrative Wellness Care practice, Tune Up. I am also a Level I & II certified Kettlebell Instructor and teach private classes in the Wood River Valley, Idaho. I have been very active in sports and athletics since I can remember. I received my BS in Integrative Physiology at the University of Colorado @ Boulder. In my practice I utilize all modalities to help get you where you want to be, whether with Acupuncture, Nutrition, or Kettlebell training. I am well versed in treating Sports specific conditions; pain, injuries, strains & sprains and use my knowledge of the body both from a Chinese Medical standpoint and a traditional Western one; a concept that most of my patients are familiar with. In addition, I incorporate my knowledge of the physical body & how we move, where restrictions, pain, or tightness may reside and how that, in turn, affects the internal organs or vice versa. For each individual that walks through my door, I am able to assess what each person needs as far as therapy to achieve their goals. Each person is different, inside and out and treatments should reflect that. Among my modalities, I use Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, Tuina (a type of Chinese bodywork), Japanese style Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Nutrition, and Lifestyle coaching as well as my Kettlebell training for rehab and for improving one's fitness level.

First of all, I have to put my disclaimer out there… as I’m only a first year student of the medicine, I would recommend getting in touch with a Licensed Acupuncturist and see what they have to say. However, if you just search around on the internet there is plenty of information out there claiming positive results using Acupuncture as a means to alleviating back pain, neck pain and headaches. I just wanted to get back to you but I am in the process of finding some valid information regarding the subject, as my mom recently had back surgery due to a bone spur and bulging disc in her low back. Post surgery, she has been seeing an acupuncturist to alleviate the remaining sciatica from all the scar tissue and she just finished up her last appointment and is doing really well! Thanks for your inquiry and I hope eventually I can answer your question fully and confidently! So to answer your question for now, YES, I think that acupuncture will have positive effects in treating all the manifestations that your spiny growth presents and in addition will be productive in diminishing the growth all together. Thanks and I hope this has been helpful!
